North Kaibab Trail

The 14+ mile and 5,000+ ft elevation loss hike down the North Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel Campground only took 5 hours– arriving at camp by lunch.

After resting for a bit and purchasing my Phantom Ranch hat from the canteen– a major priority for this trip seeing as they were sold out when we stopped during our 2018 river trip– we decided to do a bit more exploring.

We crossed the silver suspension bridge and hiked a few miles up Bright Angel Trail towards the South Rim, back down and around the river trail to where it intersects with the South Kaibab Trail and crosses the black suspension bridge.

The silver suspension bridge is super eerie, especially for someone afraid of open heights.

It’s not always the huge heroic acts, but the baby steps into your fear that make all the difference.
