“It turns out that trust is in fact earned in the smallest of moments. It is earned not through heroic deeds, or even highly visible actions, but through paying attention, listening, and gestures of genuine care and connection.” – Brené Brown, Dare to Lead
Trust is built in the small actions we choose to take every day.
In looking someone in the eye and saying “I see you”, “I value you”, “you matter”.
It is intentionally choosing transparency and a growth mindset– freely giving and sharing because the more we share, the better we all become.
I aim to foster this sense of trust and connection in my relationships. To let those I interact with regularly know that I’m listening and paying attention. To say “thank you” and “I appreciate you” as often as I can. I don’t always get it right, but I try.
Those heroic deeds and highly visible actions are often fraught with barriers that leave us sad and frustrated.
Often the best thing we can do– the thing within our control– is to show genuine caring and appreciation.
That’s how we build trust.
That’s how we deepen our human connection.
That’s how we make an impact on this world.
