GC2018 | On the Oars

Love, love, love this photo @evancharlton captured.

Nick’s expression is such a display of what this adventure feels like.

So much happy.

River Journal Excerpt Day 3

I hopped on the oars for Cave Springs Rapid, a class 5.

I was ecstatic with my line. I did exactly what I wanted to do. But even better– coming into the tail waves of Cave Springs you need to watch the left wall and also not get stuck in the eddy. As we approached the wall, I spun the boat around, angled the boat away from the wall, and used my powerful backstroke. I avoided the wall, the eddy, and the boat in front of me.

If I leaned anything from Ranger Peggy at orientation, this was definitely a “hold my beer, watch this” moment for me.

Today was a good river day for me. I felt good on the water, the temperature was perfect, and the canyon was gorgeous AF.
