GC2017 Trip Report [Day 18 | 1 February 2017]

Of all the days on the river, this is the one I remember the least about. I have exactly one sentence written in my journal, and nothing about the day really sticks out in my mind.

The most noteworthy thing about River Day 18 is that it precedes Lava Falls day.

Energy was high. Everyone was excited, nervous, and [I think] somewhat ready to just get it over with. Lava Falls Rapid is that most anticipated rapid of the trip. I could tell Nick was nervous because he was a Chatty Cathy all evening. He had a “lucky” run through Lava Falls Rapid during GC2015, and first thing the next morning he would get his second shot at running Lava Falls Rapid.

We had lunch and a short hike at Mohawk Canyon. I started hiking with the group, but it was much sunnier down on the beach so I opted to wait for the group while basking in the sun.
