8 Things Successful People Don't Waste Time On

Hello, Hello lovely readers!

I am SO excited to share with you something I listened to last week.

If you are following me on social media, you may have seen recently that I started my own Mary Kay business! I am having a blast so far being my own #bossbabe.

Your first thought might be that fitness and skin care don’t really go together– and depending on how you look at it, you’re right. But if we think outside the box a bit, and focus on the big picture, they absolutely compliment one another.

My goal in everything I do is to empower and inspire confidence in women. To help them feel strong, beautiful, and confident in their own skin.

And sometimes all you need is a bit of mascara and you’re ready to take on the world!

But in all seriousness, there is so much to be gained in regards to learning how to run a business by working with a company that has been around {and successful!} for 50+ years. I’m excited to learn and grow in this business.

To encourage consistency and growth Mary Kay offers something called The Million Dollar Message every weekday. It’s a 10-15 minute long hotline recorded by daughters of top sales directors in Mary Kay. It is super inspiring.

Today I want to share with you what I heard recently on The Million Dollar Message.

8 Things Successful People Don’t Waste Time Doing

{adapted from Success Magazine}

1. Successful people don’t get sucked into social media.

How often do you jump onto Facebook or Instagram, look at your watch and an hour of your life has been wasted? I’m guilty of this. Social media definitely has it’s place in growing a successful business, but we need to make sure we are being intentional with the time spent on it.

2. Successful people don’t go through the day without a plan.

So good. Are you a list maker? Do you write down the most important tasks you need to accomplish each day? Having a plan for your day will set you up for success. You’ll know what needs done and how you’ll fit it all in your busy schedule.

3. Successful people don’t do emotionally draining activities.

This will look different for everyone. Do you know which types of people and activities drain you? Once you recognize these, do you best to avoid them. You’ll notice more energy, and as a result will be more productive and successful.

4. Successful people don’t worry about things they cannot control.

How often do you find yourself stressing or fretting over something that you have zero control over? I am definitely guilty of this. I am constantly thinking several steps ahead and contemplating the “what ifs”. I often catch myself, and wonder why I waste time and energy worrying about something I cannot control.

5. Successful people don’t hang out with negative people.

Oh man. Do you ever find yourself hanging out with a Debbie Downer?? How do you feel after that interaction? I bet that you feel exhausted. Negative people have that effect on us. Right along with the emotionally draining activities. Maybe a bit extreme, but as I’m writing this, the first analogy that pops into my head is that negative people are like Dementors {where are my Harry Potter fans at??}.

I heard someone say recently “Show me the five people you spend the most time with and the five books you are reading, and I’ll tell you where you’ll be in five years.” Wow– powerful and true. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Set yourself up for success by spending time with people who will encourage, inspire and uplift you.

6. Successful people don’t dwell on past mistakes.

Instead of dwelling on mistakes, acknowledge they happened, reflect on the lessons you learned and move on. Successful people make mistakes. They are human just like you and I. The difference is– they don’t make the same mistake twice.

7. Successful people don’t focus on what other people are doing.

My friend Marsha said it best in her guest post Keep Your Eyes on Your Own Paper. You can’t compare yourself to others. You’ll go insane. We each have different goals. We each are at different places in our lives. Focus on you. Forget everyone else.

8. Successful people don’t put themselves last in priority.

If you are a people pleaser it is so easy to put others’ needs first. Stop. You are important. Your goals are important. If you want to be successful and achieve your goals– you need to put yourself first. Those who love and support you will understand.

So the question to ask ourselves– what do we need to eliminate to step into our best self?

Your turn! Do you waste time on any of these things? What will you do to change your course and set yourself up for success?
